Louisiana Chemical Association Responds to EPA's Proposed Approval of Louisiana's Class VI Primacy Application
BATON ROUGE – April 28, 2023 - Today, Greg Bowser, the CEO and President of the Louisiana Chemical Association responded to the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed approval of Louisiana's Class VI Primacy Application and the request for public comment that was released today.
Greg stated, “We are very encouraged to hear EPA has proposed to approve Louisiana's Class VI primacy application. This application to regulate Class VI injection well projects for Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) is crucial for our state. Louisiana has the opportunity to utilize this new and safe technology and become a pioneer and model for other states. Our industry is committed to reducing emissions and keeping Louisiana on track to reach our goal of Net Zero by the year 2050. Primacy grants such as this one will help us reach our goal. Granting primacy to Louisiana for these projects will help reduce permitting time and it will ensure that operations strictly adhere to all unique environmental guidelines that pertain to our state individually. The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources has stringent guidelines that must be followed for projects such as these. I forward to seeing that the state is granted primacy"
