Louisiana Chemical Association Comments on the EPA’s HON Draft Proposals

BATON ROUGE – April 6, 2023 - Today, Greg Bowser, the CEO and President of the Louisiana Chemical Association responded to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) HON (Hazardous Organic National) draft proposals that were announced in person today via a press conference as Administrator Michael Regan was visiting Louisiana.

Greg stated, “In regards to the new proposed rule, we would like to take an in depth look at the regulations before we comment further on it. Our industry is committed to safety. It is always our top priority for our employees and the communities in which we operate. We hope there is an opportunity to engage in a dialogue between us and the EPA in order to ensure both sides are able discuss the impacts of the proposal and give industry an opportunity to relay to EPA what is already in place in relation to these regulations. We look forward for the opportunity to meet with Administrator Regan and for industry to have a seat at the discussion table and be part of not only the conversation, but the solution. Our members have always been fully committed to reducing emissions and keeping Louisiana prosperous and ensuring it is a safe and healthy place to live. The men and women that operate our facilities are fellow Louisianians and want to keep our state flourishing just as much as those that advocated today. We were not made aware of this visit by Administrator Regan or this proposal ahead of time, but we look forward to the chance to work with this administration and all stakeholders jointly to find solutions to further reduce emissions and continue to keep our communities safe.”

About the Louisiana Chemical Association

The Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA) was formed in 1959 to promote a positive business climate for chemical manufacturing that ensures long-term economic growth for its 64 member companies that operate more than 100 sites throughout Louisiana.

LCA, Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance and related organizations work to protect and expand Louisiana’s petrochemical manufacturing base. It is critical for the industry to have a unified voice in state governmental activities because legislative and regulatory actions can affect capital investment and job retention and growth.

LCA is governed by a Board of Directors that consists of 17 member company representatives, primarily plant managers and divisional vice presidents. LCA has an experienced staff with expertise in the chemical industry, environmental, health, safety, security, governmental affairs, communications, and association management.
